Who Am I?

Little Girl in MirrorDo you ever have those days where you feel like nothing? Just. . .here, and that’s about it. I sure do. More often than not I examine myself and think, “What’s the point in me? In Christine?” I’m just here, not really making the world worse (hopefully), but not really making it better either. Just here using up empty space for no reason.

It’s a hard thing wondering why you’re here, what your purpose is, what you’re supposed to be doing with your life.

These are our years that we supposed to be figuring these things out, right? While we’re in our teens and twenties. These are the years that we make decisions to setup our life to the end of our days. No pressure or anything. But it’s hard. It’s hard looking in the mirror and asking the question, “Who am I?” And sometimes that face staring back at you will answer. “Nobody. You’re worthless.”

But there’s Someone else Who has the voice of truth.

“Who am I?” you ask.

“You’re mine,” He answers.

Not a single person on this entire Earth, not you, not me, not anyone, is worthless. Maybe things aren’t going right, maybe you’re in a waiting period, maybe all these life decisions are crowding around you and confusing and suffocating, but you do have a purpose. And you know what that is?

Being loved.

That’s it. That’s why you’re here. Not only being loved, but being loved by a perfect, sovereign Creator Who wants the very best for you. Wow. That doesn’t sound like a worthless nobody to me.

Life is hard, no one can deny that, and sometimes it’s even harder to find your place in this chaotic place called life. But you know what? You already have a place, because Jesus died for you and calls you His. And not only has He created each of us with a purpose in this world, He’s also made a place for all His children in Heaven.

“In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so,
I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.”
John 14:2

So who are we? God’s children. And what is our purpose in this life? He tells us exactly—

“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness;
and all these things shall be added unto you. Take therefore no thought for the morrow:
for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself.”
Matthew 6:33-34

We’re here to love Him, total abandon. As long as we keep our eyes on Him, He’ll take care of tomorrow’s problems and show us exactly who we are.

We are loved.
We are His.

  4. Beautiful post, Christine!! Ahh.... you just totally put a smile on my face and made my day. Such a reminder! We have everything and we are loved because of Him. I fear my brain is quite overwhelmed at the mere thought of it. And because He loves me, I should be willing to sacrifice all for His glory.

    1. Thank you!! D'awww, so very glad you liked it! God has to remind me of this over and over, shamefully. I think writing it out and sharing helped get it in my silly little brain.

It IS an overwhelming thought! Both in the fact that WOW! the Creator of the Universe LOVES me unconditionally, but also what you're saying in that we should be willing to give ALL for Him. But what a beautiful responsibility!

  6. Thank you for this, Lauri. ^_^ A beautiful post and a beautiful reminder... and such an awe-inspiring one at that!

Also, not making the world BETTER? :O LAURI. DO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH OF AN IMPACT YOU'VE HAD ON MY LIFE??? You are so much sunshine and happiness and encouragement to me. My life has been so much happier and better since "meeting" you. And not just me! I can tell you impact sooo many others! You don't even KNOW how much better you're making the world. You may feel like you're "waiting" and "not doing anything", but you're NOT. You're already getting out there and making the world better! And you do things like this and shine God's love and wisdom and just aslkdkdjldfl. Thank you for being you! ^_^ *HUGS*

    1. You're so welcome! It's something God tries to drive in my head quite a lot. Writing it out helped me see it even more clearly.

Oh my goodness. I'm literally fighting back tears reading this. You have no idea how much I needed those words! I can't even respond to this. Just THANK YOU!!! And YOU are that way for ME. Like...at this very moment! Because I'm honestly having a hard time not crying right now. God was so wonderful in giving you as my friend! <333333

  8. I like this! I sometimes wish people put more emphasize on the importance of glorifying God in a Christian's life, and I'm glad for this reminder. :)

    1. I'm so glad you enjoyed it. ^_^ I absolutely agree! I think we get so caught up in works and being serious and such that we forget God just wants to love us and for us to love and glorify Him. I forget it myself a lot of the time, so it felt good to write it out. A good reminder for myself. ;)

  9. This is lovely Christine, thank you. I shared the message of God's love with a friend one day and I could see her face soften as she began to realize the magnitude of love God had for her. Dr. David Jeremiah has a wonderful book titled "God Loves You, He Always Has, He Always Will. Blessings to you today dear one. ~ Abby

    1. Oh, I'm honored. I'm so glad you liked it. God has to remind me of this, well, quite a lot. It helped me grasp it at such a deeper level putting it into words.

Oh wow! Now I'm smiling just thinking of that. What a wonderful thing to witness, seeing the realization of God's love dawn on people. Beautiful!

I don't know if I've ever heard of that book, I'll have to look into it. Thank you for the recommendation! Dr. David Jeremiah has some really great things.

      Hope you're doing well!
